The Lotus Elise remains the standard bearer for all affordable exotics. Any car which looks hotter while going faster will cost you more than twice as much. We simply had to make it part of our original test episode, and it remains a real favorite. If we had a mascot, it would be the Elise.
Loud, small, and impractical, the Elise only makes sense from behind the wheel. But they’re reliable, and they’ve been around long enough to find great used models out there.
Just please don’t get one in silver.
